10 Items You Can't Recycle

Recycling can be so confusing. And it's the reason why only 14% of plastic packaging is collected for recycling and only 5% actually get recycled. 

Items like nail polish, aerosol cans, light bulbs actually need to be dropped off to your local municipality. They are toxic and can be dangerous to workers who are separating them. 

Pillows, hangers, clothing and textiles cannot be recycled. We have to find ways to reuse these kinds of items to prevent them from ending up in the landfill. If you place these items in your recycling bin, it contaminates the bin and can actually damage recycling facility machinery. 

 
Items like single use beverage cups are normally lined with a plastic coating and chips bags are made from a variety of things like plastic and metal, which makes then impossible to recycle.
