Everyday Choices to Reduce Plastic Use

Unless we take major steps to reduce plastic pollution from production to consumption, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050. That is just one reason why it is so important to reduce single-use plastic use, and to use eco-friendly alternatives whenever we can.

There’s no doubt that plastic has provided amazing contributions and benefits to society. After its use, it continues to wreak havoc on the environment, posing a serious threat to ecosystems, marine creatures, and human livelihoods.

One way to reduce plastic pollution is to stop using single-use plastics. You can find an alternative to many of the plastic items you use every day. Rather than a disposable plastic water bottle, buy a reusable one. You could even buy a beverage in a sturdy glass container and reuse it.

Other alternatives to look for include biodegradable plastics, glass and aluminum. You can also search out items that use minimal packaging. You can also buy in bulk or buy used items, which don’t typically have any packaging at all.

The fight against plastic waste starts with individual action. Share these with your friends. Talking about it helps raise awareness of the issues and may inspire others to choose some waste-reducing habits too.

If we want to make the world a healthier place for all of us, the best thing to do is to reduce how much plastic we use every day. Let's start now to reduce our use of single-use plastics!
