How to Reduce Plastic Waste?

Negligence is the main cause of plastic pollution. This pollution comes mainly from household waste, which is poorly recycled, dumped in landfills or abandoned in nature. Natural disasters such as floods must be considered as other causes of plastic pollution as well.

The best way to address plastic pollution is to change our mindsets and habits with this controversial but nonetheless very useful material. Here are some of the ways you can make a difference:

🔷 Bring your own shopping bag

Use a shopping bag and do not use the available plastic bags. Bring your own reusable bags to contain fruits and vegetables. The EcoFairy’s Heathered Brochure Tote BagShoulder Grocery Shopping Tote Bag and Reusable Canvas Net Mesh Shoulder Bag are eco-friendly and heavy-duty grocery shopping bags.

🔷 Stop buying bottled water

Unless there’s contamination crisis, plastic water bottles are an easy target for reducing waste. Instead, keep a reusable water bottle.

🔷 Say no to plastic straws

Whether for home use or when you’re ordering a drink at a bar or restaurant, plastic straws are often a single-use item that's just not necessary. Having a silicone straw means you can re-use it as much as you want, and it's very portable and easy-to-carry. Wherever you have a party, a picnic, or a trip, take the reusable straws with you.

🔷 Re-think your food storage

Reusable Silicone Food Bags are a must-have in any kitchen or household, preserve food or take it on the go with absolutely zero waste. These reusable bags are the best eco-friendly alternatives to cling wrap ad aluminum foil and single-use Ziploc bags. This is perfect for storing leftover foods, freezing meats, fish, fruits and vegetables.

Instead of using cling film and other plastic products to cover your bowls, switch to buying a pack of reusable bowl covers!

🔷 Avoid the use of plastic disposable material

Forks, knives, spoons, and plates shouldn’t be made of plastic. Rather use a compostable cutlery setbagasse bowls, and plates. Since it’s made from 100% sugarcane fiber, the plate can be commercially composted (no need to send it to a landfill).
