WAYS TO REDUCE PAPER WASTE

Corporate offices, schools and many more formal institutions use thousands of sheets of paper on a regular basis. Often these are then disposed of once their purpose is served. The number of paper waste is immense to say the least, and it is environmentally irresponsible of us to take finite resources for granted. In the digital age we live in today, there are many ways to eliminate the need for paper entirely, or at the very least minimize our use of it.

🗒 Opt for the alternative

If there is absolutely no need for paper, then make use of the alternative that gets you the same result. Communication through paper mail is a formal mode of discourse but can be long and tedious. The same effect can be achieved through a simple phone call or an email.

🗒 Buy recycled paper

Recycled paper is commercially available in stationery. The production of these types of paper uses 60% less energy than the manufacture from virgin stock. This helps reduce the number of trees being cut down to make paper from scratch.

🗒 Reuse paper in the office

As much as possible, make use of the supposed paper waste in the office, for the non-official transactions and scrap paper.

🗒 Place recycling bins

Complete abstinence from paper is not totally achievable today, and there will always be a need for it. In the meantime, you can organize used paper in recycling bins which can be recycled by third-party organizations.

🗒 Maximize the leaf

Set smaller margins on the leaf of paper to hold as much content as possible. There will be less paper used this way.

Sometimes the little habits we practice can add up to have a major effect in the overall sustainability of a community. The first step in this process is to make that change, which is also the most difficult one.
