WAYS TO REDUCE PLASTIC
There are various ways to eliminate environmentally harmful plastic in our daily consumption of goods. We have the choice to be proactive in the cause for reducing plastic waste, it only takes a little creativity and the drive for saving the planet. Here are some alternatives that can reduce plastic consumption:
🟢 Reusables
Investing in reusables like water containers and glass straws will eliminate the need for their single-use counterparts. This will in turn reduce the amount of waste generated from these single-use products.
🟢 Refuse all types of single-use plastics
This not only applies to grocery plastic bags, but also to fast-food restaurants that use single-use utensils and other contexts. You can opt for reusable metal utensils in some fast-food chains.
🟢 Buy less packaged foods
Packaged foods are often added with preservatives for longer shelf life. These are often inefficiently packed using large quantities of plastic and produced in mass. Abstaining from these types of products reduces waste from consumers, and in our own little way we show that we do not support these products.
🟢 Buy in bulk
Buying produce such as milk and rice uses less packaging and energy. Thus, it is ideal to purchase daily goods this way as to reduce the waste load.
🟢 Use compostable garbage bags
Large, black garbage bags are potentially harmful to the environment that they are disposed in. Animals could find themselves entangled in these bags or could disrupt the natural processes of some ecosystems.
